new track rear wheel

Following on from earlier post http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055661082 I predictably waited too long for my ebay ball-bearings to arrive and consequently when I limped in to Little Sport in Fairview the mechanic there got it running but confirmed what I'd suspected, the hub was past it's last legs.

He offered to rebuild the wheel with a new hub, which would have to be ordered in. I'm minded to do this because I was impressed with their integrity, and I'd be reusing my existing rings (save the planet man, and keep colour coordinated).

But being Scottish I had to see if I could do it cheaper, and came across this wheel http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=28614 for e100. Now their a bit garish for my tastes, but was puzzled that they have 2 versions, double fixed and fixed/freewheel.
I'd thought fixed/freewheel were interchangable, was I mislead?

And just out of curiousity, any recommendations for a rock solid track hub, 120mm, 32h?

You can roll a freewheel sprocket onto a fixed side of the hub, its the same size as the fixed sprocket. So fixed/fixed is always good to have, because you can have the option of running a fix/free or fix/fix flip flop. (Lots of f's there).

Phil Wood. The price of them might offend your Scottish soul though.

get one of the on one hubs, then lace the wheel yourself and have little sport tension and true it. that's what i did and they only charged me a tenner. it's way easier than you'd think.
you should be able to use the same spokes

Thanks for the clarification flickerx. Yes, phil woods deeply offends my Calvinist heritage. The on one prices are much more my cup of tea.
However, if there are palpable features or more overtly persuasive marketing such as on this one,http://www.evanscycles.com/products/charge/shaker-rear-hub-ec019794?query=rear%20track%20hub I could be tempted to shell out.

I'll speak to Little Sport see what they can order, also leave the lacing to them (wuss I know).

Goldtec hubs are well worth it, have had my rear one 5 years (hand-me down from my husband who had it on his work bike with a change of bearings). As good as Phil Wood without the expense, BETD and Cycleways stock them.

Got wheels built from Ribble, Mavic open pro rim and Miche hubs for 177GBP the pair last july. Delivery was very fast too. Gto them just 1 week after I had ordered them.
