I would be greatful for any opinions on the following. I am looking to upgrade my car & this is what I am looking for,

    automatic transmission

6 or 7 seats (if 7 then want the back row to fold flat dont want to have to remove seats)

spare tyre ( I believe some dont carry spare tyres eg v/w sharan only an aerosol type can of something)

mid range road tax - maybe around €600 annually

    maybe around 1800cc

    rear parking sensors

    would consider buying in uk.

The closest I have come to finding what I want is the kia carens but is over €1000 road tax & the honda stream but being an import I have had alot of difficulty before trying to replace a broken light on an import.

Any ideas would be very helpful,Thanks

Are you looking to buy new or used? A Mercedes E200K estate is the first thing that comes to mind.

My budget would be about €20k so I'm sure it would be used

I know you'll have to remove the rear seats if not needed, but its quite easy to do. With a bit of bargaining , you could have it for 16k I think. Its a 1.9TDi VAG engine, so your not too far away from your 1800cc tax limit.

    What's the budget.

I was looking for a DSG version of one these:

Which would fit your bill, but all depends on budget.

+1, excellent 7 seaters. Diesels (220 cdi /270 cdi) probably a better buy despite tax. Buy a slightly older one to compensate.

    Thanks for the replies,

drummer boy I would want the seats to stay in the car so that I can fill the car with luggage going to parents and then can use the seats when I get there so we wouldn't be using 2 cars so that is a must really

ROR the v/w doesn't have a spare tyre so don't want that one either.

    Thanks though

You could buy a spare wheel for €150 or thereabouts. I wouldnt rule out a car on that basis.

I could, but if there's no room for the manufacturer to put a spare wheel in the car where am I going to put one with 3 kids school bags/golf bags & a buggy and what good is a spare wheel at home?

There is usually the spare wheel bay. What happens is the manufacturer will simply replace the spare with the puncture repair kit. As a full size spare is often offered as an extra, the manufacturer leaves the spare wheel well in place.

Thanks for that drummer boy. I was told with the touran anyway there wasn't room for a spare wheel that there is a puncture repair kit. so took that as a fact. I have had about 5 blow outs since I've been driving and a puncture repair kits wouldn't be of any use, I just wouldn't be comfortable and I drive to the UK a couple of times a year so would defo want a tyre. Thanks for the info

Ticks all your boxes, I'd say.
    Fold Flat Seats etc.
Doesn't look as big and bulky as the Ford Galaxy and well within your price range :D

If you go for the newer cars with the low road tax you could save yourself hundreds per year and then when you are selling on the car is more saleable than an older model with higher road tax.

fwiw, any 7-seater that has fold flat seats - the rear row is occasional use only, not full-size seats. Most traditional MPV's have full-size seats, and they are, by definition, not-fold-flat.

Also, generally, cars with 3 rows of seats usually have poor/small/or no, boot with the 3 rows in place.

One car to consider: Grand Scenic.

Here's one that does all you want, is an 05, and is HALF your budget to buy, lower road tax than you're expecting (1.5), and is very frugal on juice. (56.6.mpg)

We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
