The last letter after DVB indicates the platform. DVB-C is for cable, T for terrestrial, or S for satellite.

The digital cable tuner is of no use here. If the digital terrestrial tuner is MPEG4, then you'd possibly pick up the RTE digital tests, depending on location. To hook up to a satellite dish, you'd of course need a DVB-S tuner.

i was looking on the rte website there and it said to recieve the DTT service that will be in Ireland "You need a suitable Set Top Box (STB) or iDTV connected to a roof-top antenna or a set-top aerial ("rabbit's ears") depending on where you live. Your local television dealer or appliance service centre will be able to advise on this.

Currently there are no approved STBs or iDTVs available for the Irish market. Approved equipment will be available in advance of the launch of the service.
Please note that the vast majority of UK "Freeview" boxes and iDTVs will not work on the Irish DTT service when it is launched."

does this mean that a DVB T tuner may not work on this service when is lauched in ireland??

Yes, exactly. Most "Freeview" branded IDTV's are MPEG2, which is fine and dandy for UK DTT, but we'll be using the newer MPEG4.

Look in the DVB spec for your item for H.264 mpeg4.
This will do the in the old sod when RTE goes national with digital.
