Hi there. ANyone recommend somewhere to hav ethe loft and lie checked/reset on a set of forged irons? Haven't had mine looked at since I bought them 2 years ago so there long overdue!

I could always go back to the place I bought them but I would like to find somewhere a little nearer. I live in North Dublin/East Meath area.

    Thanks!

I've never heard of clubs altering themselves...why do you think they have changed? Id find it highly unlikely that they would...ok they are forged, that doesnt make them soft or anything!

Greebo is right, never heard of clubs changing unless you whack the clubs off tree trunks a lot....
It's more that likely to be your stance and swing has changed, thats very possible.

Lofts and lies on forged clubs should be checked regularly in my opinion (on the assumption you play alot).

Shane O'Grady in Blackbush in Dunsaughlin has a good custom fitting section. I would try there.

    .
The OP is correct to get his clubs checked, if you play regularly clubs can and will alter themselves, so getting them checked at least once a season is worth it especially for better players.
Btw fyi there is a tolerance of 2 degrees in club lofts for new clubs.

Hi guys. Had them done in Portmarnock Golf Club Pro Shop. Re-gripped also.

I knew they needed to be done because I was noticing a larger gap between my 6 and 7 iron than there was between my other irons. Turns out 3 to 6 were just 3 degrees of loft apart from eachother and the 7 was 4 1/2 away from the 6.

Lie was generally good, but my 9 iron and PW were significantly more upright. I was having trouble with the PW in particular because no matter how careful I was with my alignment my full shots would fly straight left. Seems the very upright lie angle was causing the heel to contact the ground first and close the clubface through the ball. When I use less than a full swing I normally choke down a little so without realsiing I was probably reducing the upright lie enough to get away with it. We'll see if things are different now.

All clubs are now standard lie and loft.

Anyone with forged irons should certainly have them looked at at least once a year I would say. Forged irons are significantly softer than cast clubs. In fact that is the reason why they are considered to be easier to work the ball with because the ball stays on the softer clubface a little longer. Also the reason why they are considered harder to play with...

If nothing else I will have my confidence back in my clubs now!

Very intresting indeed... thanks for that update.

I would imagine that the effect is more pronounced if you strike the ball on the upper part of the clubface.

Hmm in that case maybe I will drop mine in for a checkup.
They are TM RAC MB's CoinForged.. ("ahhh coin forged...makes all the difference yunno!;) )

How much was the process? I regripped them myself recently so dont need that done.

To just have loft and lie checked and reset should be around 30 or 40 euro ish.

Anyone know anywhere in South Dublin that does them?

FYI Looks like Newlands do them

Sean O'hair says this on Golf.com..

"I get my lofts and lies checked every two weeks because the clubs travel with me so much and I'm hitting them all the time."
