    Hi all,

after looking at system profiler it says i have the following:
    512MB x 2
    DDR2 SDRAM
    667 MHz

so if i wanted to upgrade to 2GB of RAM does this mean i would have to purchase 2GB and somehow sell/dispose of the 2 x 512MB sticks?

    I have a late 2008 Macbook - 2.1 GHz

i have yet to look on crucial to price up the extra memory and would be extremely reluctant to perform the upgrade myself for fear of doing something wrong.

    Thanks.

Yep. All MacBooks only have two RAM slots and in most cases, both are pre-filled when you buy it (e.g mine had 2x1GB originally installed). So you need to remove them and replace them when you buy upgrades.

It's very easy to replace the RAM yourself and there are ton of guides online:

I did this about a yeasr ago. It's very easy. When you are installing the new RAM don't be afraid to apply a lot of force to make sure they click into place. They realy need a lot of pressure to be seated properly (more than I thought they'd need).

    hey folks,

thanks very much for your answers and video tips, it looks straightforward enough. i just have one more question.

if i buy 2GB memory in a single stick will one of the slots support that, allowing me to keep one of the 512MB sticks? or is it better to buy 2 x 1GB sticks? thanks again.

Mismatched memory is not a very good idea so the oddball config of 2.5GB is not really recommended (and may not work at all). You'll be better off with 2x1GB matched sticks.

I have 2 1gb sticks I took out of a macbook pro 2008, last model before the unibodies. They are just like new as I had 4gb to put in staright away when I bought the MBP.

would you be interested? 20euro for both?
