    I am selling my mk 3 as i have three pistols and this means a monitored alarm which i am not prepared to get .
    I have the gun about 2 years , bought it brand new and it is an accurate little pistol , well balanced and there is a huge range of aftermarket parts and upgrades for these pistols , eg. grips , sights , trigger upgrades etc , only problem with the ruger .22's is they are a bit fiddly to clean , but not too bad . I have 2 other pistols and have not been using this for a long time so its time to go.
    The pistol is in a dealers in dublin at the moment and if anyone is interested pm me please , i am looking for €475 for it or ono , thanks .

    Correct me if I am wrong.

    1) Pistol
    2) Magazine holds more than five rounds therefore restricted
    3) No more restricted pistol licences to be issued

    Hav I got it completely wrong?

    Correct me if I am wrong.

    I am not saying yoiu are wrong but just that the 'facts' as we know them are little more than speculation and hearsay.

    If you are interested in purchasing this firearm then get the serial numnber and apply for it.

    if it turns out it is restricted - as opposed to prohibited - then you can get a license for it - it may increase your security requirements but if you wnat it and that is what is required then so be it.

    With the benefit of reviewing the Garda Commissioner's Guidelines, it would appear that a Mark III Ruger is not restricted:)
    However, tonysopprano(sic) (no relation:D), is correct in that, if the Ruger was restricted, then another person couldn't apply for a licence for it as the new regulations state that "no application for a firearm certificate shall be considered in respect of a short firearm other than for: .."

    and then goes on to state the exceptions for blank-firers for starting races, non-restricted "Olympic" and restricted one for which you held a certificate prior to 19/11/08.

    Restricted short firearms are essentially "grandfathered".

    You could get it on a 'like for like' swap if it was restricted

    Don't think so B'man. Depends on they way the section is interpreted by the Chief Super and in turn the judiciary should it be tested. Subsection(c) could be interpreted a couple of ways.

    3D.—(1) As and from the date of commencement of this section, no application
    for a firearm certificate in respect of a short firearm shall be considered by an
    issuing person other than for—
    (a) a device capable of discharging blank ammunition and to be used as a
    starting gun or blank firing gun;
    (b) a short firearm of a type specified at paragraph 4(2)(e) of the Firearms
    (Restricted Firearms and Ammunition) Order 2008 (S.I. No. 21 of 2008) and
    designed for use as so specified;
    (c) a short firearm for which the applicant for the firearm certificate held a
    firearm certificate on or before 19 November 2008.

    to be honest i think this might leave the door open for a challenge to the list , eg. "how come he can have an 10 shot pistol approved and i can't have a p22 , sig mosquito etc ? "

    What you're referring to is more about the definition or otherwise of an "Olympic" pistol.
    I'm referring to a pistol which is definitely restricted (let's say a 9mm). I don't believe there is room in the legislation to allow you to license one unless it's a renewal (re-application). I don't think you can do a "substitution" for another similar firearm.
