Cassette Head Demagnetiser....?

Yes, yes - cassettes, old technology I know.........

However, I have an old JVC cassette deck that I haven't used in years. I hooked it up to an amp the other day and all seems fine except no sound! When I press play I get plenty of tape hiss and hum and the recorded music is, at best, very faint at loud volume. This deck has been in the garage for a while and has been moved and shifted around quite a bit. I tried realigning the playback/record head but no use. So now I'm thinking that the head may be magnetised and would like to demagnetise it before deciding to send the cassette deck to the bin. I used to have a demagnetiser years ago but it's long since vanished.

Any ideas where I would get one in this digital age?

The problem sounds too drastic to be magnetized heads. It almost sounds like the recording on the tape may have faded or the electronics have carked it, though lots of tape his would tend to argue against that.

Is the recorded sound stuff you recorded since rediscovering the deck?

I have an old one here...

    Presume you cleaned the heads?

Try ebay. I know I saw a 110v version for sale there, new.
