    Hi there,

I currently have a first class honors degree in Computing from a scottish university, and I'm now seriously considering applying for GAMSAT 2010 and/or 2011.

I've had a look at the information online for the 4 Graduate Entry Medicine courses running here in Ireland, and all of them require a minimum 2.1 Honors Bachelor's Degree (NFQ Level 8). It is also my understanding that the discipline of my primary degree does not matter - it is simply the grade of the degree - i.e. 2.1, first etc.

My question is: does a First Class Honors Bachelor's Degree from Scotland fulfill this NFQ Lev 8 requirement?

Any advice / input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Adam

I don't see why not. I got my degree in Scotland and my qualification is recognised by the Pharm. Soc. of Ireland.

i think to qualify as a level 8 there is a credit requirement in the EU system (theres usually 60 credits per semester for 8 semesters), there are some level 8 courses which are 3 years though (6 semesters), so youre pretty safe if its a 4 year degree otherwise you can just email CAO and ask them

Thanks a lot lads. Much appreciated. Yeah it's looking like it should be fine. Also, I dug out my transcript and there are indeed 120 ECTS credits per year (60 per semester as you say).

That said, if anyone has any info to the contrary, by all means let me know!

Nice one. Now I just gotta climb the enormous mountain that is GAMSAT. Hurrah.
