    Hi all,

    Tesco have two deals at the moment for Dinner for Two.

    First deal: Main Course, Side Dish and Desert for 7 Euro.

    Second Deal: Main Course, Side Dish, Desert and a bottle of wine or an orange juice carton (all Tesco Finest) for 11.50 Euro.

    These are on all the time actually Magic... or they have been for the past few months.

    They are quite hit and miss (especially the €7 one).

    €4.50 extra for a carton of OJ.
    I think M&S offer better value and quality .

    Actually.. the cheaper meal deal hasn't the same items as the more expensive meal deal.

    The cheaper meal deal is typically a Family Feast of Meatballs, Spag Hol or Lasagne (quite cheap and cheerful.. but not particularly nice), whereas the more expensive meal deal has a better range with steak diane (and such).

    So you're not paying €4.50 for OJ by any means.

    Cheers for the clarification B, OP made no mention of a difference apart from the wine/OJ.

    Yeah, never noticed it until you mentioned €4.50 for OJ! :)

    Also, the more expensive meal deal has a nice range of side-dishes.. which vary from week to week.

    Whereas the starter in the cheaper meal deal is either a green salad or Tesco Garlic Bread.

    As I said, the €11.50 meal deal has occassionally some nice stuff in it (particularly a very tasty Strawberry Trifle or a big tray of Profiteroles for dessert) whereas the €7 is not typically great at all.

    Sorry for the confusion, I only saw the deals in my local tesco today and thought they were kind of new.

    Deal for €7 has bigger portions, I got lasagne, bag of salad and a fruit tart. They also had meatballs as main dish, bag of salad was the only side dish available, and for desert they had the fruit tart or the trifle.

    Deal for €11.50 had a choice of chicken, salmon, lamb pie as a main dish, chips, mashed potatoes with cheddar, or pasta salad as a side dish, and for desert they only had some kind of a pudding. Only wine available was white wine, Tiano or something like that.

    Overall savings:

    for the €7 deal: price for lasagne €6.20, fruit tart €2.49, mixed leaf salad €2.99;
    total = €11.68
    savings of €4.68

    for the €11.50 deal; chicken = €6.94, mashed potatoes = €3.49, desert = €2.50, bottle of wine = €8.99
    total = €21.92
    savings of €10.42

    Like I said, portions are smaller for the €11.50 deal.

    I got the €11.50 meal once ... the only Red wine choice at the time was Tesco's South African Pinotage - it was bloody awful. Like undiluted Ribena and Rubbing Alcohol mixed ... uurrrghhh. Have they increased their choice ?

    I definately think M&S's 2 for €12.50 is of better quality

    Wine of offer for the meal deal is Tesco's Nero D'Avola, definitely an improvement on the pinotage imho.
