XPS M1710, Battery not charging...

how would you know if a battery is bust or of its a mobo problem, My XPS doesn't work under battery anymore
just when its plugged in, when I check the battery level it just blinks at 1... also the bios says battery working ok.
Do the dells flash orange when the battery as lost charge?
I think it maybe a mobo problem, as the battery is quite new, less than a year I think.
Could I get my warranty re-newed and call them in 2/3 wks to report the problem, might be a cheaper solution...someone mentioned that here a while ago.0
