Hey, I just finished 1st year in AS and I'm just wondering what 2nd year is like in comparison.( In terms of work load, hours, exams etc.).. .Does it get harder?

Also, if there is anyone who could give an insight on what 3rd and 4th year are like.

    Thanks in adavance!;)

All the sciences go up in workload. Just don't get swamped and panic, like some of us did... Well, me.

And if AS is anything like AC, you'll spend truly appalling amounts of time in the labs.

That said, the sciences still kick ass. No matter what, you'll enjoy it. Satisfying like.

I did AC, but the structure is similar enough to AS. You'll really appreciate it later if you work consistently during the year. I know I didn't, and I regretted it. Inorganic with Pryce was one lecture in particular that you should never ditch, very tough subject and she's stingy with giving out notes. Spec and physical with Long is a similar story, tough subject. If you coped ok with first year it shouldn't be too much of a step up, but you can't afford to miss any lectures.

3rd year - Intra, if its still going by the time you get there. QC monkey work for 6 months but a bit of experience and money in your pocket. Semester one was tough but found semester 2 workload (pre intra) fairly light.

4th year - Wave goodbye to the outside world. You'll spend a shedload of time in first semester on literature survey, and then second semester is final year project time. Put it like this, I literally spent 9am-10pm in labs/library in the last two months, and in the last three weeks from about 9am - 11pm writing it up. But by the time you get there, you'll be well fit for it ;)

I agree with urizen, very enjoyable to study, but definately a significant more time spent in lectures/labs compared to pretty much every other faculty.
