"You light up my life" by Kenny Rogers. Cheesy, but a nice waltz tempo.

Pity we completely botched it cause hubby didn't bother learning his steps. Thank god noone video'ed it, the pictures look like we know what we're doing..;-)

Our initial choice was 'Let's stay together' by Al Greene (song is on the Pulp Fiction album..), then we changed it cause the parents thought a waltz would be more appropriate...

ours will be 'Everlong' by the foo fighters!:) we feel it's something a bit more our style!

it'll be Tom Baxter - Better.
An apparently popular choice, but since i'd never heard of it til my OH rang to tell me he'd picked it I thought, ok, must go see why he wants me to listen to it so badly........have to say i cried when i listened to it, knowing it was what he wanted.
But rest assured, there will be a rock set being played, don;t think ACDC - you shook me all night long, would be too appropriate.....lol.....so having it on later with some queen and metallica....yep metallica.....along with my love of cheesey pop music.

I'm trying to imagine how you would dance to these songs though...

Yeah it kinda turned out to be an awkward moment until some of the mad guests got up and did a bit of head banging.... It definately stunned the crowd. I was surprised when I heard our band could do it and said it'd be cool if you started with that, I forgot about it until they actually started playing it!!!

Not the typical wedding band I'm guessing! From my previous life as a guitarist I'm thinking it would be a hard enough song to cover, fair dues to them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,503 ✭✭✭smelltheglove

No, my husbands a singer and it was his friends rock band. We also had his six year old nephew playing guitar with them.

we had 'Everything' by Michael Bublé which was great cos it was more upbeat than an embarassing shuffle around the dance floor for 3 mins! And so many people commented on what a good song choice it was. We both love that song and it means a lot to us.

Our second choice was 'It had to be you' sung by Harry Connick Jnr - we went for everything in the end cos it was more upbeat for dancing.

I second "You're My Best Friend". We couldn't decide on a first song (wife didn't like my choice) and left it up to the band. We loved it!!

    Best Regards

    Heart - Alone.

Cheesey and corny but it was our first "slow set" that we danced to together as 14 year olds - and now we are getting married next week - 17 years later!

"More"-it's on one of the Frank Sinatra albums, but I want my Daddy to sing it.

It starts with "More, than the greatest love the world has known. This is the love I give to you alone. More than the simple words I try to say, I only live to love you more each day". Oh, I love it!!

It's in typical swing Sinatra style so will be fun to dance to!!!

Wondered what everyone thought about choreographing a fun first dance, like this, this and this (this too, although I know it's not a first dance).

I always thought they'd be great fun for the guests, although I don't know if I'd ever do it.

We had a modern country song. "Bless The Broken Road by Rascel Flatts".

I'd love to do something like that. But I'd want to do it really well. Some of those videos on You Tube are pretty crap really. The ones done well are brilliant.

sorry, but I personally think they are tacky and cringeworthy. If I were at a wedding where this was done I wouldn't know where to look out of embarrassment for the couple!

but that is just my personal opinion - its your day, if you like it go for it.
but I think you need to be honest and accept that whilst to your face everyone will say it was great, there are bound to be a number of people who will think otherwise (but if they have manners they will keep that to themselves! :P)

Probably "I've been waiting for a girl like you" by Foreigner, I'd have to get married first though!

Groovy Kind of Love by Phil Collins or Love will keep us alive Eagles or it had to be you Harry Connick junior or The best is yet to come by Frank Sinatra

I think I'd pick Friends in Time by The Golden Horde, have always liked the song

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf79OUyMD78

or Haunted - Sinead O'Connor & Shane McGowan

    These are our choices:

    Rainy Night in Soho, Pogues
    It had to be You
Dance Me to the End of Love - Leonard Cohen
    Teenage Dirtbag
    DIVORCE - Tammy Winette

Don't know whether to go for something nice (as we're having a swing band) or something we really like (ala LC or Pogues). Might just play it safe and go for It had to be You - better tempo and will prevent us from just walking around in small circles.

I'd like to have picked "Nice weather for Ducks" by Lemon Jelly, but there's no way to dance to it! We might use it as our entrance song though.

So we're going for "Better" by Tom Baxter.

    Nothing decided but our choices

    Muse - Invicible
Green Day - Last night on earth
    Pat Benatar - We Belong

Its prob going to be something totally else
But these are fore runners for now - plently of time

if you're having a swing band, then what about Everything by Michael Bublé. That is what we had because we love the lyrics and we also wanted to avoid the shuffling around in a circle!
It was great - lots of people commented on what a nice choice it was.

I love watching them on youtube but I think I'd be a bit too mortified lol. In saying that I would like to do a proper dance for our first dance... my other half did ballroom dancing from the age of 3 and was All-Ireland Ballroom Dancing Champion when he was 17 or 18, but hasn't done it in years now.And his sister is a fully qualified ballroom dance teacher. I think it'd be really nice to do a rumba or something. However my two left feet may exclude that possibility!

Songwise we've always said it's be Lonestar - Amazed. Yes corny etc. but it does actually represent something for us!

I'm guessing ye both mean Queen?

Because we'd thought about that, but then thought, "how do you dance to that!"

So how do you? (for 2 people with 2 left feet)

We always said it would be "By your Side" by Sade but im more leaning towards "At Last" now by Beyonce

I haven't been asked yet, :o but it's about the only thing that I want complete control of the decision - it has to be Aerosmith: I don't want to miss a thing. I love that song
