Moving to DCU and want to live in a house

Hi, I am transferring to DCU this year from DIT where I lived on the south side. I am 23 and while I still want to go out and party plenty, I am a bit passed the campus style accommodation at this stage. I am really unfamiliar with the north side and I was thinking about just trying to get a room in a house in Drumcondra. I don't really need to a stones throw from the University but still want to be able to nip in and out easy enough.
Another area I hear lots of DCU students mention is Glasnevin. I am hoping to find a part time bar job which may be around the city centre so may Drumcondra would be ok?
Anyway, would really appreciate any advice as to which areas are good and bad.
    Cheers

P.s, no apartments, just houses and my budget is about average student rent rates. :)

Drumcondra would be grand for you. I would say that Glasnevin or Phibsborough would be a little bit cheaper and the same distance from town and the college. I don't know about what the prices are at the moment, but if I had to pick, I would probably pick Phibsborough, it's probably the cheapest, nearest to town, you could walk to DCU in 25 minutes, loads of buses in both directions if you want.

I live on Shanard Road, around the corner from DCU and there are loads of student houses around here, must be about 8 on the street. I'd know, we used to make their lives miserable as kids :pac: We had weird infatuations for ringing doorbells :D

Check out Shanard Rd/Ave, Shanliss Grove/Ave, Shanowen Road/Grove/Park. Nice enough area and close to the campus and the other campus residences.

I live in Phibsborough and it's a great location - 15 mins walk to DCU and 15 mins walk to the city centre also. You should be able to find a nice place in phibsborough for reasonable rent. I pay 300euro for a big double room :D

Drumcondra is also handy for DCU/town but glasnevin is a bit further out
