Any techies here who can point me in the direction of solving my driver issue on a Dell Latitude D531 laptop.
I've reloaded XP and downlaoded all drivers from Dell site without any issue but the dell wireless driver won't go on.

I've rang Dell support and they said to download the driver for the 1490 Wireless card which i did.

I'm getting the following message when i try and run it:
"Error setup.rul 380 has occurred and setup cannot continue"

    Anyone got any idea ?
I've lost the Device Drivers cd too

Is the download package you're getting definitely this one?

Have you installed the rest of your system drivers (ie video, chipset, etc) already?

    Yes, thats the one.
Yeah all other drivers on ok.
Dellr ep said the only sequence drivers need to go on is:

    1. Notebook System Software
    2. Chipset
    3. Video

All the rest don't matter he said

To be honest i don't know what sequence i put them on.
Cud this be my issue ?
If so, how do i roll back ?

I'll be honest, I look after a bunch of Dell laptops at work and I've not yet seen an issue I could definitely pin down as being caused by putting the drivers on in the wrong order. It's possible, but IMO unlikely.

Is the wireless card the only unrecognized device in the device manager? Is the ethernet adapter detected correctly and working ok?

Yeah, all other drivers working ok.
I'm the same and never seen this issue

I had the same issue on my Precision M4300 laptop. The solution was to let the driver installer package extract the files, let the error occur, hit cancel, and then manually install the driver from the device manager browsing out to the driver_us sub-folder where the extracted files had been placed. Worked right away.
