Any of you found any benefit in using Orthotics for knee pain? I've only started running and can only do 4 mins before I have to stop with mild pain in my knees. I have been recommended by my POD to get Orthotics but I'm not sure its worth the expense. Any help welcome.

I have been wearing orthotics or some sort of insoles for the last 15 years. The man I would recommend is Michael Davis of Wellshod in Monasterevin, Kildare 045-532792

Is the OP looking for medical or financial advice?;)

Had problems with plantar fasciitis (plus other niggles arising from it) when I started running in 2002 and had orthotics done. Would definitely recommend them but would imagine that it depends very much on the individual case. Supination was my problem...

I started getting darting pains in my knee about a year after I started running. Kept putting off doing anything about it until running became impossible. The physio diagnosed the problem as supination, had me back a few times for treatment on the knee and ordered me a pair of orthotics. They took a little bit of getting used to but no problems with the knee since. Well worth the physio visits and cost of the orthotics. I'm still using the same pair 6 years later.

I'm getting treatment for plantar fasciitis at the moment. I was gratified that the physio didn't immediately suggest orthotics. He thinks it's basically a flexibility problem and I'm only pronating very mildly. So, imho orthotics are good for dealing with specific biomechanical problems, but they aren't a general solution for knee (or any other kind of) pain.
