I was always told that if you have nothing good to say don't say anything at all.

I would say treat it like a private sale. Have someone who knows a lot about cars to have a good look at it. I'm not saying all his cars are bad, just that I had a bad experience with him and found him very pushy and hard to deal with.

    I appreciate the feed back…

I haven’t bought in Galway before so a bit clueless as to where to go or to avoid.
The ad in the paper only had a mobile contact which I always find odd to be honest.
There is something more stable about a business with a good old fashioned phone.

After I read your post I rang the mechanic I use and though I didn’t ask him about Joyce’s but he basically said the same as you about getting it checked over. I trust him totally so I guess the thing to do is to ask him to check it out.

I think I may keep looking in the mean time though!

    Thanks…
ps. I hope you got your own car sorted in the end...

It was a good while ago that I dealt with him. Maybe if you tell us the type of car you are looking for and your budget we may be able to help/offer sugestions.

..couple of things: don't assume because of big shiney premises, potted plants and yesterday's Indo on the coffee table, and nice tiles, that the standard of cars - or service - is related. Indeed, this forum is full of examples of the opposite being the case.....'book by it's cover' and all that........

Also, people need to get with the programme: landlines are a declining industry. Lot's of places use mobile no's, but are in fact routed to landline, say during the day, but they can then take calls inwards, on either. Technology, people.......ditto for out-going calls. A lot of places use the likes of a Premicell - a device connected to the phone system, which has a SIM card in it. If you dial out from your desk, to, say, a mobile number, it routes the call via the Premicell instead of through the landline - cheaper calls, see, as it's technically a mobile-mobile call............and free in a lot of cases................so don't get hung up on mobile no's coming into your phone, either.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I think there are a few places in Tuam. I ended up using Al Hayes, which was grand. Wasn't blown away by the service - but it was fine and most importantly the car is running well.

    Thanks Rylan and Bruscar....

I couldn't tell you what I am looking for as it is too embarrassing! Lets just say my budget is about euro1,500 to 1,800!! :o

I am driving an old car at the moment but it is reliable and I love it! Sadly things are starting to break on her - nothing engine wise but things like the boot hinge snapping..It just means that she may be starting to cost more then she is actually worth. At the moment I am just having a general look but I spotted a newer version (00) of what I have and thought I may check it out..

My budget is small which is probably good as I am speed fiend and old small cars keep me safe:)

Will give Tuam Land a look

    Thanks...

Wow never expected to see this here, I miss Headford :(

My brother bought a car of him, which is now mine, a Rover 200. Runs like a watch and I have clocked up over 40K miles since I purchased it of my brother.

The owner is not "nice" to deal and that is putting it mildly.
