Boards Poker v Voodoo Card Club: Charity Football Match

I am pleased to announce the first Boards Poker v Voodoo Card Club Charity Football match AND poker tournament in aid of the Santa Strike Force!!

The details aren't set in stone yet (:rolleyes: ) but here is the general format.

Saturday 21st November at 3pm (venue likely Leicester Celtic) a Boards Poker Football team will take on a team of dealers and players from the Voodoo Card Club in a charity 11-a-side game.

In order to play for this team each player (for both teams) will have to raise the low low sum of €20 minimum for the honour. All the money will go to the Santa Strike Force.

Then, that evening, around 8 o'clock, the Voodoo Card Club have graciously offered to put on a €20 + €5 tournament with all the reg also going to the Santa Strike Force. In addition they have undertaken to give us 2 crates Tiger Beer and a buffet free of charge for the players who partake in the game that day.

The tournament will obviously be open to anyone who wishes to play and hopefully we can get a great turnout.

The reason I put this up so early is twofold. Firstly, I just agreed most of this with the Voodoo Club (Derek, thanks again) and wanted to post it while it was fresh in my mind, and, secondly; I wanted to give myself as much time as possible to get a team together and drum up some excitement over it. Hopefully a few heads might even come and cheer us on. I know Derek is going to have the Voodoo Team in Voodoo t-shirts and so forth so I might see can we scrounge a set of jerseys together too and really look the part for the day.

Anyone who wants to be in the team please post in this thread and I will keep a list of interested parties. Obviously I hope the lads who have played before will consider getting involved but it should be a good friendly and not too serious game (with likely prop bets galore) so I would encourage everyone who wishes to get involved to stick their name down. After all, the more money we raise the more good we can do.

sounds good to me however the problem is i play matches on saturdays. Hopefully the irish weather will do me a favour and my game will be called off so i can play. i would actually enjoy beating the Voodoo in a game of ball.:)

I would like to put my name down. I would also like to wager €20 that I will score a goal at some stage during the 90 mins (loser has to donate an extra €20 to the strike force

Awww would love to play (the tournament in Voodoo not the match of course, no freezing muddy fields or wet balls for me, thank you! :pac:) pity I'm not free that weekend.

Can you give us more details about the Santa Strike Force - for who, for what and where? I mightbe soft enough to donate to it...

For a Prop bet, I'll wager 25 Euro in a penalty competition , get as many in as possible. Peno each straight knock out, last 3 play best of out 5 to take the prize. Put me down to play, although if it's on grass I'll have to buy new boots, my old 'billys boots' have finally bit the dust.

Just to clarify the reason it's on Saturday is to accomodate the tournament that evening as it's the best day for Voodoo to stage it and make an overall day out of it. I play ball on Saturdays myself but, and I'm not trying to guilt anyone into anything here, I'll be taking a week off that week to play this game since it's for a good cause.

I am sure we'll get enough bodies even though it's on a Saturday though obviously I understand some of the regular ball players will have games that day more than likely.

Willie - I'll give you 3 to 2 odds for a penalty competition between you and I, where you're in goals for my penalties and I'm in goals for your penalties for as many penalties as you like up to 5 each.

We'll figure something out if you can make it.
For the match (and to raise monies for the charity) may I suggest.
A) If a player scores a header, the opposition have to throw a 5 each into the kitty.

If a player scores a hat trick, the opposition have to throw a 5 each into the kitty
C) If a player misses a penalty, his own team has to throw a 5 each into the kitty (and he 20)
We could add a MOAN factor, anyone deemed a moaner will be fined 20 Euro by the ref.
These rules of course are not set in stone so feel free to think outside the box, as at the end of the

If a player nutmegs another - the receiver of the nutmeg throws in 5......
If a player gets knocked over in a challenge he pays 5

If they did this in my Monday night astro, I'd be outside the Fitz with the other homeless bloke, looking for dosh off Hector. Fcuk me, I'm a moany bastard in that game (Muso will testify to this !!!). How someone hasn't boxed the head off me is a miracle.

I'm in no way associated with him whatsoever but my club got a set of mitre gear off him for 200e and it was terrific value for money.
