    any help would be greatly apreciated - they sound like the same artist

    If the songs appeared on a Johnny Cash CD I'd say there's a good chance the artist in question is Johnny Cash.

    The American Recording series contained a huge amount of covers, probably most famously NIN's Hurt. :)
