Just wondering if any boxers here place importance on this? I've only ever had one fight where I noticed the other fighter really staring me down before the bell and I didn't get involved because I was confident going in and didn't want to add fuel to his fire.
What im wondering really is that if I see a fighter staring me down and I don't get involved does that display weakness causing his confidence to grow or would getting involved be likely to wind up the other fighter enough to make them even more determined?

Well, watch SRL and he rarely rarely stared at an opponent. He usually looked away and me doubts that he was displaying weakness. I guess some may just feel uncomfortable trying to look mean and trying to intimidate. I love Clay-Liston's stare down before fight 1; Clay is so confident and brash!
I would say that the starer would gain confidence if the opponent was fidgety and looking away
