Cheap Central Hotel in San Francisco

Hi, I want to book a twin room in a hotel in central San Fran for October 11 to 16th.

This will be my first time to San Fran. I am not sure what it central. I will not have a car so I would like a hotel that is easy to walk to places and is in a safe area.

I would like recommendations in Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf as I think these are central as far as I am aware, or else somewhere else central.

My budget would be about €100 a day for 5 nights.

    Any Recommendations? Thanks a million.
Or websites with good hotel deals?

PS: sorry if this has been asked before.

Try the Mayflower (http://www.sfmayflowerhotel.com/). It's ten min from Union Square and way cheaper than most hotels in SF (which are generally incredibly expensive). I *think* I paid about $120 a night for a basic, but huge, room with a kitchenette.

    Hey

I stayed in the Sheraton Hotel which is really close to Pier 39 on Fishermans Wharf for a couple of nights at the end of a trip visiting lots of National Parks in October last year. It was really lovely and very reasonable as I booked the rooms through www.hotels.com which I also used to book rooms in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas for the same trip and we were never let down in terms of price or quality. We actually got a 30% reduction as we were staying for three nights. The hotel staff were lovely and when I went to book our taxi to the airport they told me it would be cheaper to book a limo given there were five of us travelling which we did - which was a bit of fun on our last morning of the holiday!

Just to note though - the price of our room did not include breakfast, which I found to be the case in a lot of hotels in SF but not elsewhere. But there are so many places to grab a reasonable brekkie that it wasnt a problem!

In terms of things to do we didnt have a very long stay but we visited Pier 39 a couple of times for food, shopping and those incredibly loud and smelly sea-lions! We also booked a day trip where we crossed the golden gate bridge, went to Muir Woods to see some giant redwood trees, then to a wee village called Soscilito for a wander and some lunch and a view back over to SF and then to Alcatraz. I highly recommend pre-booking a trip to Alctraz cos the queues are massive and its really worth the visit! Dont forget to take a wee trip on one of the old fashioned trams that runs around the city too, they're cool. Also you cannot leave SF without a visit to the Cheesecake Factory...an unbelieveable restaurant but very busy so also try to book a table in advance. www.thecheesecakefactory.com

Sorry I dont have a link to where we booked our day trip but that was someone elses job - I was in charge of accomodation!

Hope some of that helps, have a great time!

My tip would be to book a hotel as close to Union Square as possible,
Fishermans Wharf is not very central. Stay close to Union Square and
get the tram or a cab up to Fishermans Wharf for an afternoon.

The Alcatraz trip is worthwhile, especially the night tour

Got the Hilton O'Farrell St for $99 a night last April. Booked through the hotels own website. It was one of those 'No refund' deals where they take the money regardless of whether you turn up or not.
Hotel gets very mixed reviews on TA but when we examined the reviews it turned out that almost all the bad reviews were for the exorbitant cost of add-ons, (cost for use of gym, price of meals, barprices, carparking prices) none of which we were going to be using anyway.

Its about 2 blocks from Union Square.

    Hi,

Thanks everyone for your hotel and attaction advise, I really appriecate them.

I tried booking some of the hotels but were booked out so I eventually got the www.theherberthotel.com on hotels.com for €492.

Its next door to the Hilton hotel and near Union Square.

Yeah the Alcatraz trip looks good. Will def try out the Cheesecake factory, sounds yum!
