Returning to boxing

    Hi,

I'm 26 and used to box during my early to mid teens but gave it up as I was also playing rugby in school. Looking back now I regret not keeping them both up because I really do love boxing.

It's about 3/4 years since I've stopped playing rugby so over time I've put on an extra stone or two (nothing ridiculous though)! My main reason for that is because of a back injury so I need to strengthen my core a bit.

Anyway I'm interested in getting back into boxing but have read a few threads on here saying that a lot of clubs don't want to take adults in. I live in Rathfarnham so can anybody recommend a club (preferably nearby) that would take a case like me? St Josephs ABC is quite near me but does anybody know it? Would they take adults?

    Thanks in advance!

Not sure about St.Joeseph's ABC but CIE Boxing Club is close to Rathfarmham I think is it? They take on adults, kids whatever its a very good club. Bernard Dunne trained their for years.

Yeah I hadn't heard anyone out off it in awhile and just thought it was gone.

    Thanks for the input folks.

Just checked up on CIE and they're out in Inchicore.

Anyone have any advice on getting back into it? Would it be best to try get my fitness up before going down to a club or just head on in and work at the fitness as I go along?

Head down to the club no better way to improve your fitness. Your fitness will come on leaps and bounds very quickly.;)

Hi Ive only started back recently Im 27 and haveny boxed in 10 years. It was very tough starting back. But the best thing to do is just head down and catch as many sessions as you can.

Thanks guys. I thought as much but I guess I was secretly just hoping to postpone the pain and puking!! :D

I'm sure it'll be tough at the start but sure it'll be worth it in the end!!
