    Guy's

Need a bit of help on this one, I was told by a guy in a tyre place that the pressure on my 18" low profiles should be set at 35psi, I done this on Sat and the car is shaking badly, So i reduced the pressure to 32psi and it has helped a bit but there is still some shaking,

what is the exact tyre pressure for the back and front tyres of my car. its an 03 a4 and the traction is afaik ok on it, Any idea's??

    Thanks.

bring the car to a tyre centre, there could be a balancing issue on one of the wheels. That much over shouldn't cause a vibration.

If its shaking above 50mph its probably just balancing is what the wheels need. If its shaking at low speeds say 10 to 30 mph then you might have a warped tyre or a bulge/damage to the sidewall. 3 psi wouldn't make a whole lot of difference, what size are the tyres?

Cucullan come to think of it, it is worse when going above 50mph, so do you think it is balancing? tyre size is 235/35/19, i got the wheel size wrong its 19", Thanks for the reply's guy's.

Yeah start with getting them balanced, should only cost €15 or €20 for 2 wheels. If there a problem with the wheel or tyre they'll spot it when its on the balancer.

    sounds like balancing.
in answer to the tyre pressure question. check on the door pillars drivers side with the door open it may be there or in fuel filler cap.
if not it is in the owners manual.

I would be careful with what guys in "tyre places" claim for pressure. Their experience is generally from putting 185s on Puntos. Low Profile tyres (and wide tyres) generally take higher PSIs. I just got a 235-45-17 (front left, not really that low a profile) fitted, they inflated it to 32psi, despite the fact the door pillar advised 2.9bar (42psi).

Good tyre places have a book (and actually use it) from the likes of Michelin that covers lots of different pressures and unusual tyre sizes per car (ie specific models are covered).

Why the OP went and reduced the pressure to a random figure I dont understand.

Thanks for all the replies guy's

Matt to answer your question i was advised by a neighbor who is a mechanic to reduce it to that pressure as he said 35 was way too high, but he was wrong. I will go a tyre place today and get them to have a look at it. thanks again lads.

I have 225/45/17 and I inflate mine to 36/37psi. Now 30-32psi would be for a standard typre 185/60/16 (ish) When you consider the added size of the tyre there is no way 32psi is enough. I got mine at Blakes Cross, Dublin and they suggested 38psi. By other accounts and mine they are a good tyre centre. Thats my 2 cents worth
