Why no medals for Triathlons??

Just wondering why medals aren't given out (or posted out) to finishers of Triathlon races in Ireland?? Since starting running back in early 2008 I've been building up a collection of medals for each event I did, something which represents a lot of hard work. Its a nice thing to have. Yet the two toughest races I've done (TriAthlone Sprint and TriAthy Olympic) have no medals whatsoever. The entry fees arent exactly cheap, you would think that medals would be easily affordable.

I was actually wondering the same.
For each marathon I did, i got a medal...and never got a medal for any triathlon I did, even when one was promised to each finisher. My kids don't believe I still win all the races :)

I don't think the OP was talking about winners medals. I know most races do have medals for winners and AG winners, certainly Athy does and am sure Athlone too.

My own personal opinion is that medals for finishing is OTT, I have quite a few and never seem to know what to do with them. Something inside finds it wrong to throw them out with the rest of the goodie bag leaflets etc, and yet I know I will never cherish or display them.

I cherish my triathlon medal, as I only have one.

For the sport I play seriously, I've thrown out loads of 'em.

I'm not bothered by medals but my 3 and 5 year olds love them. They assume I've won every time I come with a medal. They have triathlons in the garden (replacing the swim with a roll down the hill at the end of the garden) and have a medal ceremony afterwards.

Come to think of it I've lots of medals from road races but only one from a tri, London. We did get really nice glass trophies at Tramore Tri last year though.
