Endurance vs time

    im plannin on doin the dcm this year,im want to incorperate a lot of rest into the next 3 months.the question is ,wiil my endurance base take a serious dive in the next 50 odd days if i dont do any serious running save for a few sneaki runs up toa max of 10 miles?.

    Like everything else it's all individual and depends on your usual weekly mileage and how long you've been running.

    However in my experience of doing next to nothing after marathons I tend to lose speed much faster than endurance. After a month of idleness I'll lose up to a min a mile but I haven't noticed much loss in stamina.

    That seems a bit strange. Do you want to run the marathon or do you want to take a rest? The two don't seem compatible to me.

    Apparently there was a study that showed 5 weeks of one third normal mileage didn't reduce fitness. Don't know exactly how it was conducted but you could try doing a similar routine as you're used to but with reduced volumes.

    Seems a bit pointless to me. If you need a rest, then surely you shouldn't be doing a marathon. If you don't need a rest, why not keep training?
