Laptop without battery

    About to buy a laptop.

Need one for traveling use in hotels or offices. But dont necessarily need self contained power and will happily jettison in order not to be lugging around unnecessary weight.

Q: Can any laptop be used with its battery removed and just plug in its power supply? Or does it need the battery in place whether you are plugged into the mains or not?

    Ta.

Buy yourself a netbook, something along the lines of the samsung nc10. Even with the 6 cell battery it only weighs 1.33Kg, and you'll get 7 hours of use out of it.
In answer to your question, yes any laptop will run without the battery, but it's a bit inconvenient.

about 99.9% of laptops can run of the mains without the battery inserted , though it's nice to have the battery in the laptop anyway, if your ever doing important work and the power goes out the laptop will switch to battery power instead of shutting down losing all the work you just did
