    guys,

a sign just came up on the dash indicating "engine malfuction". Checked the manual, it just said reduce speed and low level depression.

What does it mean, i was able to drive the car to the shops and back. Is the car in serious danger if i drive it further?

If its a 1.4 or 1.6 petrol I bet its a misfire code. You'll have to go and get it hooked up to the diagnostic computer. Misfire is common enough for these but easily and cheaply fixed. Its usualy water tripping down onto the engine from the water jets which cause the spark plugs to misfire.
Saying all this its only if its the 2 engines above.

I had a problem with an 05 1.6 misfiring. This was caused by the frost plug on the coolant system failing, basically rust. The frost plug is situated between the plug leads and coolant flooded these. If you pull off a plug lead and there is lots of coolant around the plug then that it the problem.

A new frost plug €2, about 70 times that much to have it put it! It is a pity Ford didn't spend €6 on a frost plug that would last 3 times as long.
