WLAN on Acer laptop just stopped working. Help?!

    We have an Acer Aspire 5315 laptop, and had wireless connection set up and working for well over a year now with no problems, until today.

    Just turned it on and its not working anymore.

    I think it may have to do with a Windows Update that my daughter didnt install yesterday, its an Atheros driver update.
    But we have connected the laptop directly to the router now, but when we access Windows Update, the driver update is showing only as a failed update, and we cant get it to install again, there doesnt seem to be an option to try it again?!:(
    We have tried to search for updates again, and only new updates are showing up, not any of the old ones that failed to install.

    Can anyone help??
