    The Date is 2020:

In The UK after 9 years of Conservative rule, The Labour Party is returned to power and under pressure from Irish Nationalism calls a border poll under the terms of The Belfast Agreement. Under widespread accusations of fraud and intimidation, the poll is passed 51%/49% and The Labour government accepts defeat and agrees to meet The Irish government in order to implement a United Ireland as per Belfast Agreement.

In Ireland a broad coalition government is in power with SF/FF on one side and FG/Labour on the other. Following a key by-election the Irish parliament is hung and the Irish president asks you to take control as Prime Minister and bring about the dream of a United Ireland.

SF/FF are totally committed, but FG are going cold on the idea, with Labour floating between the two.

A newly formed Irish Workers Resistance Volunteers has expressed it’s opposition to Irish Unity on the basis that it will entrench capitalism in Ireland. It has issued a statement saying that if a Workers State is not established within 24 hours then military action against bourgeois elements will commence. Targets to include reactionary politicians, Irish Army officers and Irish Civil servants. IWRV is thought to contain 100 hard core members with access to arms and explosives and about 5000 strong supporters.

In Northern Ireland the population is split - 1 million Catholics and 1 million Protestants. East of The Bann are 850 000 Protestants and 400 000 Catholics. West of The Bann are 600 000 Catholics and 150 000 Protestants.

The old Unionist leadership (Paisley, etc) have gone and have been replaced by militant Loyalists who are now claiming for themselves an independent British Ulster (territory not yet defined), for which they say they will fight. The Ulster British Army (UBA) claims to have ten thousand trained men (ex UDR/RUC/BA) with access to at least 2000 assault rifles, 50 GPMG, 50 RPG and adequate munitions for a sustained guerrilla campaign. They also claim to be able to draw on a further 50 000 men with shot guns in support.

Nationalists in East Ulster have about 1000 volunteers and some weaponry (100+ assault rifles). Nationalists in West Ulster are not organised and Unionists in West Ulster are manly farmers with access to shot guns only.

The Conservative Party in Britain bitterly opposes selling Unionists out and has organised street demonstrations in their support. Attacks against The Irish on the mainland are escalating, orchestrated by mainland Loyalists and the British right.

A newly appointed US Republican president has warned Ireland that war crimes will not be tolerated. The EU has expressed it’s full indifference, but warns Ireland that it’s future in The EU is on the line.

The UK Labour party has said that it is now over to The Irish and they can expect absolutely no support in the process. The UK Navy will not blockade Ulster and those from the mainland travelling to Larne for whatever reason will not be stopped.

FG and Labour have hinted that they will not support anything that leads to a ‘blood bath’.

Loyalists have hinted at the existence of sleeper cells in The South with access to explosives - but this hasn’t been confirmed.

Severe rioting has broken out in the greater Belfast area with 50 deaths in the last three months. Low level ethnic cleansing has begun across Northern Ireland.

Well, as the new Irish Prime Minister charged with bringing about a United Ireland what are you going to do now?
