ADD ADHD

It has been suggested that one of my young relatives may have ADD or ADHD.

Does anyone have any links to good websites that provide information on these?

Also, does anyone know if there is tests that can be done to determine wether or not they do have ADD / ADHD and who can administer these tests?

I know pretty much nothing on the subject, so any help at all is much appreciated.

    Thanks

Ireland has a low rate of expertise and knowledge whilst diagnosing ADHD. I was diagnosed via a private consultation, thus I then got a second opinion via the HSE. The HSE didn't diagnose me with ADHD. The person who diagnosed me, diagnosed 3000 people over the past thirty years whilst working abroad. The psychiatrist who assessed me via the HSE knew little or noting about ADHD, probably because I was his first assessment with ADHD.

I was diagnosed last year, aged 26. I have more knowledge with ADHD than our entire health service. I have ADHD, researched ADHD, had all the unnecessary troubles from childhood to adulthood. I could have ended up on the wrong side of the law but I didn't. I'm extremely articulate and have just recently started college.

If you want to know who has the expertise to diagnose children with ADHD apart from myself? I'm afraid your in a spot of bother there as I'm not a qualified psychologist. I have to study psychology first.

I was diagnosed via the children's clinic in gorey wexford. The pediatrician's name is Dr Sean Fennell. He's diagnosed 3000 people whilst working abroad. The HSE and private clinics have diagnosed?????. Would you rather put your child's future in the hands of the HSE or con artists via the private sector or just go with common sense i.e 3000 people means a wealth of experience. Don't procrastinate with who you will choose as Dr Fennell unfortunately has a heart condition and god only knows how much longer he will be with us.

Don't wait to find out, it might be too late or you could send your kid to America, but at least you'll get the proper expertise and knowledge, just make sure you get those winning lottery numbers first.

There's a young female studying psychology within one of our universities who had a troubled adultescence, was then send to America, got diagnosed and treated with ADHD. She knows what ADHD is, even more so than me and that takes some going. But more importantly her invaluable experiences with ADHD will enable her to help others as to not experience the unnecessary difficulties that accompanies ADHD.

It could be years before her invaluable expertise is integrated into our health service as quite a few birds gages must be rattled first.

That's why essential to choose balanced and mature personalities whilst choosing which hands you should put your kids future in.

    Do the sensible, choose expertise=experience.

Brave and interesting post there niall. Well done. First hand experience in this area expressed as eloquently as you have done should / will progress the ADHD cause.

I worked in part with a lad with ADHD in third level. Very talented and gifted person with an amazing personality and unstoppable drive for attention. I witnessed the same fella entertaining a whole busload of people with great comedy routines whilst singing ad libbing various songs with his buddy. It lightened the whole journey and made everyone smile.

I suppose that ADHD can be a positive thing once a person with this 'affliction' can be directed into something that will benefit them. It can be a gift over being a curse really.

Your comment is much appreciated. Our planet is flooded with psychiatrists, psychologists,
Authors and pharmaceutical corporations who manipulate people diagnosed with having ADHD to believe that they have a special gift and medications can help the gift materialize.

I can do things better than others, not because I'm gifted, but because we all have individual traits and talents and when implemented, can benefit each other. I agree with your opinion, people labeled ADHD can achieve happiness should their negativity melt into the fabric of time, evidenced by Michael Phelps.

The unnecessary experiences I encountered with ADHD were because ADHD evolves over time, similar to a child's personality and cognitive ability evolving over time. It's not stagnant, because it's dynamic and its influences change over time. The tasks of each stage of development may be unnecessarily difficult as long as ADHD remains undiagnosed. When diagnosed, it will encounter problems, but at least these problems will be recognized.

The negative experiences I encountered with ADHD, the severity that developed was because I was unaware of my rage. People with ADHD develop frustration that can materialize into anger/rage as they don't know how to inhibit their impulses as well as other people. They lack that little pause between impulse and action that allows most people to be able to stop and think.

Hence, my invaluable experiences with ADHD, positive and negative, is evidence that we can maintain a healthy mind and achieve whichever goals we may pursue. Others are not so fortunate, others will never get a diagnosis but most importantly others will engage in criminal activity thus inflicting suffering upon species. Suffering can melt into the fabric of time should our politicians and health care professionals choose to become balanced and mature personalities.

Hi niall, have you considered turning your experience into an expertise by courses i.e. qualifications? It sounds like you could possibly benefit this area by your experience.

I feel that you do have a passion in this area. A fella with this 'gift' / 'affliction' can only do well as a career which will possibly help others with the same 'affliction' as percieved by the public.

Maybe eventually you will be a Dr by a PHD in this area? More importantly I think that you have massive potential in this area. It is something worth considering for your self.

Dr Fennell didn’t diagnose 3000 with having ADHD however he did make 3000 diagnostic assessments to distinguish whether or not it was ADHD and therefore you should get your facts right. ADHD is an over diagnosed disorder in the United States of America partially due to the fact that the big pharma’s rewards the health care professionals for prescribing medications. Registered users and viewers of this post could pose the question that Dr Fennell diagnosed 3000 with having ADHD partially due to the fact that the big pharma’s rewards health care professionals for prescribing medications and so they should be however Dr Fennell’s clinic operates on a part-time basis and more importantly the big pharma’s don’t reward the health care professionals in Ireland. The rating scales that were established to distinguish whether or not someone has ADHD are fraudulent. I was diagnosed because I genuinely met the criteria for having ADHD however I’d question the diagnosis because of the new breakthrough
