Hey guys, moving into halls on the 18th, new to dublin just wondering if you have any financial advice for me.

    1. With regards to paying for halls is it one large installment or is it a monthly payment or something else.

    2. Same question as above except with regards to college fees (I'm on free fees scheme)

    3. Does anyone know a good website to help me budget for dublin, i.e. food per month, transport etc. or do any of you have any advice.

    Thanks a lot

    Alex L

If you are on the full grant the council will pay your registration fee. Trinity halls rent becomes due at the start of each term, though that may have changed with the introduction of semesterisation. Have a read of the info they send you, details on how and when payments are due are certain to be in it.

As for budgeting well I got by quite nicely on €100 a week but it depends a lot on your social life, more going out means more money. I wouldn't always spend that amount but it averaged out at that when I included incidental expenses like seeing the doctor and buying stationary or clothes now and again. There are some great money saving tips in the "how to beat recession thread" in this forum if you find you don't have the money... in very lean times I have gotten by on less than €40/week but its not sustainable or healthy in the long term.
