Can anyone please advise me as to where I went wrong with my carrots?
I prep'd the ground and made sure I included some sand so that the ground would not be too hard.I propagated the seeds to plants and transplanted once they were established. They show no sign of rot and taste lovely but are a pain to prepare, due to their numerous legs and stubby top.
I am 'stumped...just liked my carrotts!

I believe the reason the carrots are splitting is down to the soil (or ammount of compost in it) being to rich. This often results in multi end carrots.

yep, in my experience it's either the soil is too rich or too many stones in the soil hich maks them split

    .

carrots should always be sown direct from seed as they do not do well when transplanted.:(

Dead on. Transplanting carrots is a no no. Never works. Same with parsnips and most if not all root plants.

This is called forking. It can happen when manure is added to the soil too close to planting time.

At least you can say "My forking carrots taste great!";)
