Hello, I am a student and got a letter today to say i owe 176 euro tax on my income. I earned 5240 for 2008. Am i liable to pay this 176 euro? I didnt think you had to pay tax on low income amounts. Most of the money went towards keeping me in college. rent, food etc.

no assuming you only had a personal credit of 1830 (you prob also had a paye one which would make it even higher) then you can earn 9150 tax free, that letter seems incorrect.
