I'm going into 1st year science, and was just looking at the choices for 2nd year. the only subjects that i would have any intrest in doing would be microbiology, anatomy and physiology. I've just read in the course book that places in these subjects are given out on the basis of your 1st year exam results. My worry is that i'm doing 2 subjects that i didn't do for leaving cert, chemistry and physics in 1st year and I see that the number of place for anatomy and physiology are very low. So do i stand any chance of getting a place in these subjects next year?

    Thanks.

you will get in if you do wellin your exams.they are allocated according to exam results...SO turn up to lectures, tutorials and labs!!!!

Those places vary from year to year also, depending on how popular the subjects are. Don't worry, as long as you attend the lectures and labs and put in a little work you'll be fine.

For Physics and Chemistry, first year is spent getting everybody up to the same academic level. They split into two classes - people who only have a junior cert level of the subject and people who have a leaving cert level of the subject. Honestly pet, you'll be fine. There's no need to be so worried!

I did Biology and Phys/Chem so i think i'm going to take Physics and Chemistry as if i didn't do them for my LC to go over the parts of the course that were meerly skimmed over seeing as it is a smaller combined.

i was the same in first year, hadnt done chemistry or physics before so i know how you feel! and if im honest i hated chemistry so i didnt really make any effort for that. physics i loved and its not as difficult as people make it out to be! i got into physiology and anatomy and my grades were nothing spectacular so with even a little work you should be fine and if your really dedicated then you should def get what you want! good luck, and enjoy first year!! :)

I'm finished in NUIG this year. I did Chemistry as a final year subject. My best piece of advice is to go to ALL of the physics lectures and labs (thats if you didnt do physics for the LC and dont have an aptitude for formulae!). It's very easy to pass the exam if you know the experiments inside out and do an ok written exam. I failed physics in first year and was stuck with my fifth choice subject... if you talk to anyone i know they will tell you i hate chemistry :(
Other then that chemistry and biology were easy enough and maths was ok... I think group C is the one you need to do to get anatomy and physiology etc... could be wrong?
