Surveying in the Gardai?

    Howrya folks,

I'm currently studying Building Surveying in college and modules in our degree involve the surveying of land and buildings. Having seen Gardai "surveying" road traffic accidents with the same equipment we use, is there a way into this specialised department without first going to Templemore and doing your couple of years in the stations?

I'm not trying to sound lazy (as in avoiding those years in the Garda college) but are there people that aren't fully trained Gardai but are employed in this aspect of Surveying?

If anyone has any answers or possible ideas they would be much appreciated.

Those Gardaí are forensic crash investigators. They are all Gardaí who've done the appropriate course and have received accreditation. There's no way into this line of work without having done your time in Templemore & in a station.

That's not to say any skills you have won't be recognised after you finish in the college.

    Ah yeah I know..

The crash investigation section made me curious about getting employment in it but after spending 4 years in college getting my degree I'd want to go straight into employment as opposed to going to college again if you know what I mean?
