hi, I'm starting college in a few weeks and am looking into getting a laptop! Basically i want a good all rounder, something that i can play games on, listen to music with, watch movies and what not, and do all that studenty stuff with too!
I've been looking at this Acer Aspire 8530 G
Here's a link to its specs..

    Thanks!

How much have you seen it for? The graphics card is a mid ranged card, and should handle older games at mid to low settings me thinks. The only thing i see wrong with that laptop as a choice for collage is it's size. 18.4" is massive, and it weighs a ton too. I'd seriously consider something smaller for lugging into college every day, at most a 15.4" screen.

Yeah, its VERY big if you're going to be carrying it around. Although of course, if it's just going to be sitting on a desk the whole time, bigger=better :D

I wouldn't spend a lot on it, the graphics card is last-generation and im not a fan of AMD processors. But if you're getting it for a bargain then it would be grand. What is your budget?

The site is selling it for €679...which is a little over my budget of about €600.

Any other laptops you'd recommend? I'm totally lost in this field. Like I did a good bit of research when buying my desktop computer so I'm not a totally computer retarded but that was a few years ago and I've kinda forgotten what all the numbers and letters mean!

So basically I've no idea what laptop i want. :(

you should look towards a dell or lenovos on laptopsdirect.ie as they are very well specced machines for your budget.

personally would steer clear of Acer as I have found them to be of poor build quality ....

    hope thats helps

Reports of problems with both Dell laptops (particularly graphics cards) and laptopsdirect.ie, as suppliers, abound on this forum - do a search.
