I know this is a bit technicial but can someone explain how exactly storage heaters wired. I know they usually connected to contactor which is energised at night from esb time switch.

1 However dont know how the stat is wired which u usually find in the hall which controls storage heaters.
2 Also the 6 amp control fuse what way is this wired.
3 Is the time switch of the ESB directly wired to the A1 coil of contactor?
4 What about Devi reg which are found in new apts how are these wired or is there any way of testing they work properly.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

how the stat is wired which u usually find in the hall which controls storage heaters.
This is a normally closed contact, i.e closed when the ambient temperature is below the set point. The stat is connected in series with the switch wire (live) that energises the contactor that brings on the contactor for your storage heaters.
Also the 6 amp control fuse what way is this wired.
Normally a 6A MCB. This goes from the MCB to the ESB timeclock to the stat and then to the contactor.
Is the time switch of the ESB directly wired to the A1 coil of contactor?
No, it passes through the stat - see above
What about Devi reg which are found in new apts how are these wired or is there any way of testing they work properly.

Quite simple, it comes with good instructions and is already connected in the board. The only thing you have to do is wire from the Devi reg board to an outside sensor. The sensor should never be mounted so that direct sunlight falls on it, but most people ignore this!! The instructions and wiring diagram that come with it are very good.

Thanks 2011 great advice as usual.

So just to be clear from the top of 6 amp fuse bring a single 1.5 cable to timeclock. Then from timeclock a single 1.5 cable to stat and then from stat another 1.5 cable to A1 of contactor. Is this correct?
1 Is there any need to bring a neutral to time clock or is it just to A2 of contactor.
2 Is there anyway of checking ESB timeclock works without calling them out to check it?
3 The stat for combi heaters that usually located in living room are these just for the 24 hour heater and what way are these wired. Is it from the 2.5 cable from top of 20 amp fuse to stat and from stat to the heater.

    Thanks for your help

A control pair (twin brown)to meter location for domestic dual-tarriff.Separate NSH meter requires separate tails.
Timer and meter are a single unit for new domestic dual-tarriff anway.
Most common fault with esb timers is they simply stop. You can check this easily by looking at it,and energize your contactor to prove your heating system is working.
A stat for a combi can switch the load direct or via contactor depending on it's rating.A 4-core cable /programmable stat and contactor might work well for a sitting room combi. You could prob. program it for a comfortable temperature in the evening
