    Hi all,

Im looking to change my car at the moment.I was in with an opel dealer today and he had an 03 mazda 6 with 86k on the clock new N.C.T 1.8 petrol what are they like not too many around these parts.
Im buying straight so the salesman was eager for a deal he was down to €5500 when i was leaving without really haggling at all.
Being a 1.8 would i want my own oil well.
    Any information appreciated.
    Thanks

1.8 wouldnt be too hard on fuel, certainly no harder than a similarly sized 1.6 car. Mazda6 petrol is a good car.

There are a few 2004 models on Carzone that would be yours for the same money though.

I bought a 04 Mazda 6 only a few weeks back. I traded my 99' falling apart passat in which in truth was worth at most a grand and a half. I got the Mazda for 4350 euro with a 2 year nct.
Its a 2ltr and does just under 400 miles on the full tank which really isnt too bad. In fairness depends how you drive it.
Mine has 83k on the clock and in fantastic condition.

Its a lovely car to drive, handles great, mine has the a/c, cruise control, etc.. which helps on long drives as well.

Personally I think they're a lovely car, Jap as well so hopefully very reliable, from talking to a few mechanics I've been assured once you keep it serviced you'll never have a problem with it.

    Hope that helps.

I had a Mazda6 1.8 for about 15 months prior to my current car. Really got sick of the cheap interior (new version nearly as bad TBH) and rattly hatchback in the end. Having said that, they're really the only faults. Good reliability. Goes reasonably well. Economy OK - I was getting about 35 mpg with a roughly equal mix of urban, back road and motorway driving, which I consider pretty good. Both of my cars before and after the 6 were/are 1.8 petrols in which I was getting the wrong side of 30 mpg.

Don't get the Comfort model - go for Touring (I had this) or especially Sport Touring.

Wouldn't say they were a rare sight though. I also think that you should be aiming for a 05 if you have €5500 to spend (might have to go for a private seller with this). Note that there was a minor refresh to the car in mid-05 - nicer interior trim (black rather than silver dials) etc. Try and get this if you can.

edit: another minus - the headlights were ****.

I had one for a few years, great car. Handling is fantastic, really good to drive. Not one thing went wrong with it.

If I'm nit picking it's a bit noisier than some but that's the only fault I can think of. The 1.8 engine has a great reputation for reliability - unlike the old 2.0D.

It might be worth looking for a Sport spec if you can - they were very well equipped.

Can't speak for Mazda 6 but I'm on my third Mazda 626 the current one a 01 2.0 petrol hatchback with 135,000 miiles on the clock. I get 35 to 38 mpg all the time tho its mostly open road motoring. I can't fault Mazda, very reliable, comfortable to drive, cheap to run. My next car will be a Mazda 6 no question about it. I have read that the 1.8 engines are about as economical as the 2.0.
