Got a call from a Citroen dealer in Newry (after an query over a year ago!) who have a bunch of new C5 VTR+ for £13000.

    £13,000
    =€17750
    + IR VAT €3000
    + VRT €5400
    Landed price €25,150

Then claim back the UK VAT €1800 ish

Final price around €23.5. Retail here €30K before cash deal.

    Not too shabby.

Thats a big saving off the Irish list price, but Gallic Distributors (Pug/Citroen) are almost giving away cars down south. There's massive money off a 407, and Berlingo. Not sure whats off a C5.

Still a good deal all the same.

Exactly what Irish model does that compare to? Here's the Irish retail price list.

Also, your calculation looks off, or is it me?

The UK price is £13k including 15% VAT, so the UK VAT is £1.7k. Using your sterling rate of £13k equals €17.75k, the reclaimable UK VAT is worth €2300 ish.

I think Ive seen 10000 off petrol Mazda 6 & 12000 off Peugeot 406 petrol. Sounds mad. Maybe there is something else involved in those deals, Im not interested in those cars so I just saw those big headline eye catching figures

Is 13000 sterling not about 14,700 euro?

Edit. 14,763 according to google calculator.

Yup, it is. Or 14,800 for argument sake.

    Which makes the maths:
€14,800 includes UK VAT (I presume) of €1900. Park that.
Add VRT €5,400, then VAT, total €24,543.

Take off UK VAT (plus Irish VAT on the UK VAT, or €408) if possible (need to be VAT registered?) for €22,235

I think you all need to work on your maths! If that 13k stg is VAT inclusive (are you sure it is?), then you will have the car landed (including FX commission/excluding travel) for an amazing €20180!!!!

Although as the owner of a one year old version it ain't good news for me!

    VTR+ = Dynamique here BTW

yep, I'm making it at just over €21k plus travel

    OP has VRT wrong - it's €4415.

My figures are all over the shop I admit, maybe it was the excitement! But 21k sounds even better, if I had the money I would buy one for sure, although I really want a 2.0hdi Exclusive.

If the VRT is 4400, then the car is €20k by my calculations.

That list is well off what you'd get any of them for cash i'd say. Should be pretty substantial discounts i would think. Anyone considering that UK deal should definitely look into what they'd get down here for the same money.

Whats the one in the OP, 1.6HDi?

    Yes, 1.6HDI VTR+ (our Dynamique)

Agree about testing the water here first, but I doubt you'd see 10K off any C5.

I was thinking to myself for the last hour as the thread was popping up, why ye were all so excited, me thinking the C5 was such a horrible horrible car. Then I remembered the new model came out last year:rolleyes::p

That sounds a cracker value for money wise if it can be got for 21-22k.

Yea probably not but you might closer to it than you think! I'd say a Citroen dealer would bite your arm off at the moment. New C5 is a nice refreshing car too, compared to say, a new Avensis

When it first came out I was offered a €1700 discount for cash, how times change!

A further sweetner to the deal: UK spec VTR+ now has sat nav and bluetooth as standard! I *think* this is still a circa 2k option here. (note: will add a couple of hundred to the VRT).

    Anyone wanna buy a 2008 C5??!!

Sounds tempting indeed but the dealer bunch of C5s may not have sat nav and bluetooth. Its well possible that theyve been sitting there for a while

That's 5k more than I've been offered in 6 months of trying to sell it!

    Would make sense TBH.

edit: in which case they may not even come in at VRT Band B - they were band C until earlier this year.

Couldn't agree more. Even at the top of the boom, there were substantial discounts available on certain cars - the discounts surely are bigger now. I'd expect 20% or more off even a base model C5. It is not fair to compare rock bottom non-negotiable UK cash only prices with Irish full fat recommended retail prices.
When it first came out I was offered a €1700 discount for cash

You were offered? Instead of taking that as the best you could do, you should have taken that as the start of your negotiations :D
    I really want a 2.0hdi Exclusive.

Reading between the lines your point (and my point) is that there really isn't much to say for buying a C5 if it doesn't have hydropneumatic suspension...

    VRT calculation:
    2995 x 0.16 x 0.92 (OMSP) = €4415.

    Sterling price: £13000
    Less 15% VAT: £11304
    Convert to € @ 0.88: €12846
    Plus commission (@ XETrade): €12974
    Plus VAT (21.5% of 12974): €15764
    Plus VRT = €20179.
