I spent over 2 days last weekend trying to Jailbreak & Unblock my iPhone 3G S. Got loads of help from the guys on these fora which help me keep my sanity.

It took me a long time to figure it out but, if you've not succeeded after 2 or 3 attempts, use a different computer.

Once I changed laptops, I succeeded in Jailbreak & Unlock in about 30 minutes!

    Good luck!

What would be the reason a particular computer would not do it successfully ? Just curious.

I used and failed with my newish laptop that runs Vista.

Someone suggested that I try a different computer & I did. It worked. The second laptop ran XP.

Other people have had the same experience.

I think it's mostly a USB issue - the iPhone/iPod Touch needs to enter a particular recovery mode (DFU mode) and that doesn't seem to play nice on some systems. On fairly recent Macs, Apple seems to have blocked (not sure if on purpose or not) DFU mode from working correctly but with Windows PCs, it seems a bit random...
