Recommend an indoor training machine please

Does anyone use and indoor training thingy like one of these? A friend of mine is thinking of investing in one for the winter and I thought I'd just check to see if anyone has any advice for him. I think he would prefer one with a remote control if that's any help Thanks :)

This is the machine I used last winter. Couldn't cycle worth a damn come season start, but Sunday mornings were a lot easier.
