Or who's next and not tommy or quadrophenia? It's nice to get a couple of people listing off great albums though. :D

Like the good Doctor says, any time you do a list like this, you end up thinking more about the ones you've left out!

I always try to do these without including best of's & live albums & only one entry per artist, but that's just me!
Right this minute, my 12 of the best, in no order,:

    Why 12 by the way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,077 ✭✭✭✭bnt

My list varies over time, and I'm not 100% sure what is meant by Classic Rock (70s?) but here goes, alphabetical by artist:

Be Bop Deluxe - Sunburst Finish
King Crimson - Starless and Bible Black
Deep Purple - Made In Japan
Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
    Grateful Dead - American Beauty
    Joni Mitchell - Hejira
    Led Zeppelin - II
    Rush - Fly By Night
    Steely Dan - Aja
    Supertramp - Breakfast in America
    The Who: Who's Next
    Yes: Close to the Edge

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

―Oscar Wilde predicting Social Media, in The Picture of Dorian Gray

was listening to Who's Next again yesterday, what a masterpiece, even to listen to the drums on that album, wow.

For my two cents, here are some other classics:

Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies
Pink Floyd - Wish you were Here
Beatles - White Album / Revolver
Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed
Byrds - Notorious Byrd Brothers / Sweetheart (class act)
Metallica - Master of Puppets (Master, Master)
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti (and some of these songs were left off other albums!)
    Love - Forever Changes (classic)
Van Halen - Van Halen (Eruption - wow)
Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil (nasty and nice)
ZZ Top - Deguello (their early work is class)

Kill Em All - Metallica(I love Master of Puppets and TBA but Kill Em All is my favorite)

Use Your Illusion 1 - Guns n' Roses

    Paranoid - Black Sabbath

Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden

Saints of Los Angeles - Motley Crue(It's one of the newer albums but it's what got me into Motle Crue)

    Dirt - Alice in Chains

    Ten - Pearl Jam

Live Magic- Queen(It's actually a live album, but I like it. It has all my favorite Queen songs in it:D)

I don't actually have a top 12, so i'll just leave it at this.

Many people don't call it a proper Motley Crue album cause John Corabi sings on it but check out their slelf titled album from 1994.

A lot of the songs in Saints of Los Angeles were partially written by members of Nikki Sixx's other band Sixx Am, DJ Ashba and James Micheal made contributions to the album.

I think you'll find that it was the self titled album that Corabi sang on. This has Vince.
