Service costs for a Citroen C4?

    Hi guys,
Fast question - almost-four-year-old 1.4 Citroen C4, left in for it's second service, needs front brake disks and pads replaced but otherwise in good condition (it's been a lovely little car to drive, the only problem I ever had was with a tyre which was replaced with the same make&model two years ago). I'm guessing that should set me back around €250-300; anyone think my guess is off by much?
    Thanks...

Pads, discs, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, gallon of oil, brake fluid change, plugs (if petrol), general once over and looksee at everything. Greasing hinges etc if it's main dealer, €2 for the washer bottle detergent etc etc :D

You'd be doing very well to escape with only €250 taken out of your pocket I think. Main dealer discs and pads would be quite pricey at RRP I imagine.

If that is a main dealer then I'd expect a service + the brake work to cost more than 300. Maybe closer to 500. But if you have already paid for the service then 250-300 on top of that for the brakes sounds about right

It is unusual to have to replace brake discs or even pads at a cars 2nd service. How many kms has the car done?

Ugh. I'd forgotten the fuel filter.
How pricey can the disks and pads be though - they're barely €120 for OEM parts...

75,000km or so Brian - but it's the second actual service, I'm not counting that inital 100km "make sure we didn't forget something" look-see :D But the pads were gone (I had a peek myself). Absolutely no question the replacement's needed - they were damaging the disks it was so bad.

€350 I reckon if the discs and pads are €120 from the dealer, OEM from a factors and dealer prices are muchus different though :(

At that mileage you may well need a timing belt.

Service, and pads/discs could be anywhere between €500-600.

    €500-600.
    Ouch!

Get yourself a second opinion, i dont think the disc's should need

replacing that soon. Pads maybe(front pads cost about €35).

Its not a big job to do either. www.2carpros.com. Gives very

good tips if you wanted to do the job yourself. Few tools and

about an hour and you'll have it done.

    Disc's cost about €90 too.

Ring Peppard Wicklow (main Citroen aftersales dealer). See how their price compares to others.

OP, not trying to preach to you from a hight or be part of the high horse bregade but I would recommend the car be serviced at least once a year rather than once every two years. The condition of componants like brake pads, etc would have been checked and the garage made recommendations so you could probably have avoided the expensive cost of replacing the damaged discs prematurely at this early stage of the car's life.

Replacing brake discs on a 4 year old car is unusual but understandable in this case as the brake pads appear to have been left wear to a stage where metal was grinding against metal. Out of interest were the brakes screeching as usually this is a sign the pads are worn and need replacing?

That's a given bazz, the disks are my own fault, they should have been replaced a year ago (before they went, that is, I've not been driving for a year with grinding brakes! ). And I'd have changed them out myself but I just don't have the time at the moment (I just got assigned to teach a course that starts in three weeks and I have to rewrite most of it, so I'm a little busy). And normally, I'm a lot better at looking after the car (and I know enough about it to do most of the servicing myself bar the onboard computers). This is just the end result of too much crap landing on my plate at once.

    So in the end, €590.

But the first estimate was over €1500 - adding in four new tyres, a pollen filter, an O2 sensor and a few other things, none of which frankly, were broken. Someone just went down the "ideally, do this after four years" list. Hmmmm.

I mean, if I was driving hard every day, maybe - but that's just not the usage pattern on the car. It doesn't need four new tyres, and won't for another year or two. And pollen filter? Harumph.

    So, once again, ouch!!!!

For the pads, discs, oil, air, fuel filter and plugs and a general look see and check ? Wouldn't have thought they'd charge over €400 tbh. How wrong was I.

No fuel filter, no plugs (feck it, I only changed the plugs six months ago). Oil change, oil filter change, pads and disks, general look/kick/poke about. Pads/Disks came to about 300 in the estimate.

But if you're doing on average c.19k km a year (based on car mileage) would 2 years not be stretching it for tyres:confused: Also isn't a pollen filter change based on age usually and the O2 sesnsor only known from a fault code?

    €590 for that
Their pads and discs were as expected more pricey than the OEM ones you quoted, you could get savage breaks for that price though.
