Anyone have any comment to make on this? Or is this just a sop to the CFL manufacturers? Philips et al.
I don't have a problem with using Incandescent bulbs, I also have a range of other energy saving bulbs LED, CCFL and CFLs installed but sometimes there just isn't a substitute for the old fashioned 100w incandescent, this seems a bit of a greenwash to me, surely the market decides whether the bulbs are worth it or not. IF a CFL last 10x as long as the alternative while using less energy then it makes financial sense and the public adopts it.
But if it costs 10x as much and does not last the distance then the market rejects it, what could be clearer? or am I missing something?

The true cost of a lot of consumer products is not just the shelf cost but also the environmental cost.

Countries are gonna have to start paying big time for their emissions and it is something the customer currently doesn't really have to pay.

So consumer inertia and the non-true pricing of incandescents has lead the EU to have to take this drastic step.

The cost of purchase of the bulb isn't the relevant cost if you want to talk about externalities: it's the cost of the electricity, no?

    Bought one of these

    http://www.lightonenergy.co.uk/105W-Halogen-GLS-p/halogen-gls-70.htm

(paid 3.50 euro in a local shop!)

but its not as bright as the 100W, close but not close enough!

looks like I'll have to get these instead
