Intermittently failing to connect to internet via wireless

Hi guys I have a dell inspiron 1520 with windows vista and it's been giving me trouble connecting wirelessly for awhile now. I've proven that it's not the router or the wireless card thats causing this problem.
The main problem is that my laptop can see and identify the router, but when I click connect, it just reports that it can't connect to the internet:(
Also it works fine when wired, and sometimes when I remove the cable while its connected to the internet, it retains the connection and works perfectly. I've tried restarting the laptop in this case many times to see if the connection is still retained, and sometimes it connects straight away, and sometimes it doesn't:confused:

I've been trying to fix this for a good while now but nothing seems to work:(

Any help would be much appreciated,
    Thanks

Start>Cmd(Right Click - Run as administrator)

    >ipconfig /flushdns
    >ipconfig /renew

if that fails give us your ipconfig /all and your routers IP and DNS settings.

    Log into your router
    http://192.168.1.254
    Go into your wireless section
And change your default wireless channel.

Upgrade the drivers or the wireless nic
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/T8Clearance.aspx?sType=&agr=Y&ProductID=3062&DwnldID=17749&url=/17749/eng/ICS_Dv32.exe&PrdMap=&strOSs=156&OSFullName=Windows%20Vista%20Ultimate,%2032-bit%20version*&lang=eng

Third go into the properties of both the wired and wireless adapters, set the duplex settings to auto/auto

Any rules set up on your router?
such as cloning of mac address, filter by mac?

sounds to me like your having encryption key problems , what are you using wep or wpa?

if you have not tried so already I would suggest checking you have the correct keys entered and that the hardware is compatible with your encryption method.
