Positioning on the straight, that should be driving towards the left hand side of the road yeah? And could the turns mean I wasn't tucked in enough or something like that? Cheers.

I failed for similar reasons in my test.

My driving instructor was always telling me to keep more left, keep more left.
He was making me drive in what I thought was an uncomfortable position on the road - too far left.

On the way to the test my mother said that I was driving too close to the left but I shrugged her off saying this is what my driving instructor said to do, it must be right!

    Wrong! Too close to left...

Moral of the story, get a good driving instructor from a reputable school (my first was a private guy, a recommendation from a friend) and practice more.

    Good luck.

After having a look at your test results, there is nothing there that cant be sorted.

Progress is what it says....go a little faster

Observation turning left is using your outside mirror to check your blind spot before you turn.

Gears and cluth can only be fixed by practice

Position is not over to the left. Its half way between the edge of the road and the centre line.

I would suggest get a adi registered instructor and he should direct you in the right way.

Thanks for the advice! I think the observation was for maybe looking when I'm turning, as I got no marks for mirrors.

My car doesn't have power steering and it's a pain to drive abit, surely didn't help me! haha

In a car your out side mirrors are marked observation. Your inner mirror is marked mirror...........But in a van your outside mirrors are marked mirrors not observation.

When i was testing i only remember giving one mirror mark in a car, The person stopped suddenly but never checked what was behind them to see was if safe to stop.............cant remember giving any other...

Ahh, makes sense now. I've applied for it again but gonna do it in my mas car this time. Its an 08 with power steering and its only a 1 litre so should be easier to handle for the test like.

Ya know when you're coming to a junction and turning left, you're supposed to tuck in and drive right to the imaginary like yeah, whilst looking foward the entire time?

Surely above statement should be quantified somewhat, as per Rules of the Road

    Position on the Straight/on Bends
    Position on the Straight/on Bends

Having regard to the width of the road, an applicant should normally drive reasonably close to the lefthand side of the road, i.e. approximately mid-way between the central dividing line and the left-hand kerb, or a fault may be recorded for 'Position on the Straight', or on a 'Bend', as the case may be.

    and

    Position at Cross Junctions
    Position at Cross Junctions

An applicant who intends to go straight ahead at a cross-junction should normally be as close as is feasible to the left hand side, or a fault may be recorded for 'Position at Cross Junctions'.

However, where lanes are provided and road markings permit a centre, or outside, lane to be used, this is acceptable.

The situation on the far side of the junction should be taken into account

    Finally

    Good Driving Practice
    Your position on the road

Make sure you drive your vehicle far enough to the left to allow traffic to safely pass or overtake on the right but not so far to the left that you are driving on a cycle lane or blocking or endangering cyclists or pedestrians.

You will also be marked down for failure to make adequate progress if you want too long to move onto a roundabout, or if you don't move out from a junction quickly enough.

Completely incorrect. You can only check your blindspot by looking over your left and right shoulders. They wouldn't be called blind spots if you could use your mirrors to see them.

When turning left, you need to check the left mirror for bicycles/motorbikes coming up on the inside and you also need to look right if you're at a junction for oncoming traffic. You also need to make sure you don't cut the corner too tight, or you don't overshoot the corner and end up crossing lanes. When you've taken the corner, you also need to check your left and right mirrors when straightening the car up.

Go faster, stay close to the kirb and learn how to use a roundabout.

    You will pass no problem

2nd test is Monday coming at 10 in the morning, bit nervy since I'm not that used to the car yet. You have to lift the clutch really high up to engage the engine. Gonna just practice 2 hours every night this week!

    Hi OP

Here are some examples of what you should be doing:

How to Drive Straight: Look at how the position speed and gear change depending on where you're driving. Look at the silver car "That is the example car"

How to Turn Left into junction: Look at how all is done BEFORE i need to turn.

If you have any questions just ask.

    Regards

I had done the test quite a while ago, I reapplied a bit after. I'm doing it in Tallaght.

Thanks, those tutorials are helpful. I will keep with that.

One of my major issues is when other drivers are driving up behind me when I'm going to take a turn, causes me to speed up when I shouldn't. Just have to get over it I suppose.

Before you get to the turn, Brake a little so that your brake lights show but you are not slowing, they will slow.

If you slow down at the right distance (remember break giving yourself enough time to slow "DO NOT BRAKE LATE AND HARD!") from the turn they will slow anyway don't worry about them, once you know they are there you have done your part and it is up to them not to run into the back of you.

    Regards
