I bought a used car off mechanic I know 2weeks ago, He gave me the tax form RF101 or something that I had to fill out my details on and send off to Clare to state change of owner, I got that letter back this morning, but I cant figure out what else I need or how to tax my car. I cant do it online as I dont have a PIN, and i searched through motortax.ie site for answers and a few old threads here, I am booked to do NCT in december and the car is out of date on NCT so does that mean I cant get taxed? Im getting very confused as to which form or what I need.

I cant get to motor tax office today,Ill try go early in morning to nutgrove or clondalkin, but I dont want to queue for hours and have them tell me to fill out this form and that form and come back to me as time off work is sparse these days, Ive been on hold for about an hour now on the motor tax number(the only one i could get) so am looking for answers.:confused:

    thanks...

once your the official registered owner of the car you can tax it...you don't need anything else. go to www.motortax.ie then go to vehicle transaction enquiry (left hand side) then enter your car reg....if it says that a change has been made in last 2 weeks then your good to go!!!!you can tax your car.( if you don't want to get stung for tax for the month of august ( since you bought in august) then you will need to get a form stamped by the guards. good luck ;)

thats for just re-taxing a car you own like usual, if there is a gap in between motor tax renewls or you buy used car that is untaxed then that form cant be used as far as Im aware

NCT is not required to tax a car.
