Hi , I'm Doing The Advanced materials course TR076 and i was wondering when are we given the oppertunity to choose the ECTS modules?
It says on the trinity site
Students choose subjects from the following to a total of 60 ECTS credits. The permitted combinations of subjects are shown in Patterns 1-4, below.

But I havent found any information as to When or where we are given this choice. If anyone has the answer i would greatly appreciate it

    Thanks

Go to your course orientation meeting with the school during Freshers week, the deadlines can be early but if you don’t receive anything in the post you will be able to choose during Freshers week

hopefully someone on that course will see this, perhaps see if you can get the thread title changed to include advanced materials or TR076

Did you accept a place for Advanced Materials or just Science?

If you went the advanced materials route I think your stuck with Chemistry, Physics and Maths and you don't get a choice for anything else. But you've a place sorted unlike everyone in TR071 who need to compete academically for theirs.

However if your in science you can pick Chemistry, Physics and Maths and then jump into Advanced Materials in 3rd year if you do well in the exams.

Yep, by choosing TR076, we've got our subjects picked for us. http://www.tcd.ie/Advanced_Materials/jf.php

    Wait, what?
Can we not just pick what we wanna do and do it? I wanna do Bio, Chem and Maths. Am I in for some competition? and do I have to pick these on the form in my orientation pack before Freshers week?

Hey, I'm starting this year too, and have already asked this question. In first year there's no problem, you can do what ever you want to do as long as there are no scheduling conflicts.

In third year however when you pick the subject you want to study (e.g. botany, neuroscience, zoology etc) then there is competition and places are given out based on your results in the 2nd year exams. Some of the classes are really popular and hard to get into.
