MBP battery question

    Hey guys,

Last week I booked my early 2008 MBP in for a genius appointment, every time I unplugged the mag-safe the computer would turn off. Figured it was the battery since Coconut Battery was giving me some pretty weird readings. I kind of expected to get the battery replaced for free since it's only 18 months old and I have Applecare.

Anyway, the genius confirmed that the battery was depleted however said it was not covered under Applecare as it was my fault for the depletion. I had 359 load cycles over 18 months. He said a typical battery will last 300 cycles over 3 years. After talking to the manager we agreed that I would pay £39 for a new battery, which I was happy enough with.

My question is, how can I prolong my new batteries life more than 18 months? I regularly calibrated my old battery. When I'm using my MBP should I be running it off battery power or have it plugged in? Also, since I can pop out the battery easily enough, is it a good idea to take the battery out altogether when I'm at home and just run it off the power?

Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

I am also in the market for some battery advice. My battery is pretty much run down, not even sure how long I can get from it on it's own now.

Also, the magsafe adapter, is on it's last legs. It's frayed so much now at the magnet end that there is just one layer covering the inner wire.

I've just ordered my new battery for my 3yr+ MBP today since my current one is saying "Needs service" and ranges in health from 40% to 70% depending on the day.

My question though is where can I send my old battery for disposal/recycling? I've googled and searched apple's website but it keeps giving me iPod battery info. Grrr!
