Loads. Eg in Cork the monkstown and crosshaven lines. Usually done on an ad hoc basis by local volunteers and are non paved. For walkers and slow cycling but nice all the same

This is the way it should be done. This is in France, but thats a civilised country.

They do it in the US as well with a scheme called Rails to Trails.

Also in the UK it's quite popular - I'd love to see it done more in Ireland, around Waterford there is a disused railway to Dungarvan (with a steam train on a small part of it) and a disused line to New Ross as well - they'd be ideal for cycle/walking paths.

The one from the marina to Mahon point is very good quality though, and often used.

None the less infrastructure in this country is a joke, it has improved but it's still way behind any other country I've lived in.

Walking Tours of Kilkenny in English, French or German.

The Grand Canal tow path from Inchicore to the 12th lock, only 8.5 kms though.

Edit: I just bought a mountain bike, so i'll be organising a saturday or sunday spin along that path very soon.

The canal tow path out of Newry is done. Good surface, about 20 miles of it if I recall, or was that out and back? Was 2 years ago when I was on it.

Drives me mad, the constant fences. I had an awful experience cycling along the royal canal from Mullingar - I gave up at Enfield, there was no point. Has it changed, anyone know?
