Happy OP is happy, good for you.

Those dongles are very useful I will say as long as you can get reception and the network is up, which being fair is most of the time.

You do know that you're paying for this dongle? A bloody fortune too

    Congratulations on your recent purchase.
You may find that if you insert said thingy into your rectum, you can download the entire internet directly to your brain.
Doing this will, however, cancel your money-back guarantee.

    I've got a 3 one. €19.99 a month, I think it's quite fair.

It's all well and good till the first €600 bill arrives at the door because you've got a tiny download limit.

I can't believe they are allowed to refer to these thingies as broadband tbh. This country doesn't know what real broadband is. Although I heard on the grapevine that UPC are planning on rolling out 100mbit broadband, happy days.

Fair point, I just use mine to browse, check mail and the odd bit off downloading / youtubing so I've never had that problem. It is mobile internet though and isn't really ideal for prolonged home use, that said I do realise it's the only option for some areas.

UPC were recently the first network to break the fabled 'net neutrality'

    http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/08/23/1921206

    So you get 100mbits while...

You have the most expensive package

Nobody else in your area is using it

Not too many people in other areas are using it

    You are only using HTTP

You are not uploading, I expect upstream speeds to be like 50k. Maybe just enough upstream bandwidth for ACK packets and your credit card details.

    Only from 'selected sites'

The sites themselves have 100mbits to spare

You have hardly used the service in recent months

You have never used bittorrent or anything that isn't HTTP-based.

i'm sure its alright for continuous use if you use a couple of them on different networks at the same time.

    1 bit = 1/8 of a byte
    100,000 bits = 12500 bytes
    12500 bytes = 12.2kB Approx.

    Not that fast really. :D

Im on a vodafone stick as its the only 'broadband' available here. Its quite good. I use it all the time for boards, mail, youtube, mail including moving Acad drawings around a far bit and I never get near my download limit so suits me perfectly. Not too slow either.
